Preparing for Irma With Love

I could not be more filled with joy knowing the love that a certain little Florida community of Ave Maria showed in their facing the oncoming of Hurricane Irma. While many left the area for more safety and comfort, those who stayed for a variety of reasons prepared with conviction, compassion, cooperation and joy. Yes there was stress and nerves may have been frayed however the community welcomed many from the neighboring town of Immokalee.
My homily this Sunday was a color-commentary reading of a letter that Ave Maria University President Jim Towey wrote to the community on the morning of Saturday, September 9th, just before the hurricane system hit.
I hope my reading of it is acceptable to President Towey and somewhat does his sentiments justice.
